I was a panelist on journalist debates in the framework of Barents Spektakel festival in Kirkenes.

We discussed Prejudices about each other. Journalists from Russia, Norway, Finland and Sweden put forward their own versions. I shared my version: media itself   cultivate hate speech. I presented   examples reading headlines in Karelian media over the past six months. Those headlines present Finns, Norwegians and Swedes as quite criminal people

Acquaintance with management of festivals of documentary cinema of Northern countries became the theme of the week long training of the Russian experts in Norway and Finland within the limits of the project «Management of film festivals» financed by Ministerial council of Northern countries. 13 representatives of film festivals of the Northwest of Russia from St.-Petersburg, Murmansk, Kaliningrad, Arkhangelsk and Petrozavodsk took part in the trip from January, 18th till January, 28th.

The nearer   Barents Spektakel,   more worries for journalists : so many events in five days ...A group of Russian journalists   covering  this extraordinary festival is formed at last. Thanks to a grant from the Norwegian Barents Secretariat and Nordic  Journalists Centre   (Denmark) for the ninth time we will be able to try this "cultural-political cocktail " as organizers- Pikene på broen- call Barents Spektakel.

 

Northern Character to be opened in Murmansk

November, 15 at 10 o`clock, local time,   the  IV International festival   Northern Character starts its work in Murmansk in Parkinn Polyarnye Zori hotel.

115 contest entries  are presented to the festival. Filmmakers, producers and journalists    from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Holland, Canada, Italy and Estonia will take part in Northern Character.

Russia will be represented by the participants  from the   Karelia, Komi, Bashkortostan, Arkhangelsk Oblast, Ryazan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Norilsk, Krasnoyarsk, Izhevsk, Murmansk, Cheboksary, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
The festival program   consists of works screening,   discussions and master classes of  Ingela Lekfalk (Sweden) and Sergey Bondarev (Russia).

Traditional  media forum will also take place. This year participants will discuss such issue: "Anti-hero in focus. Thanks to the media? "

In the framework of the festival a seminar " Management of   films and  television programs festivals " to be held. Participants from different countries will take part in the seminar. They are:   producer Bernt Viklund (Sweden),   project manager «Midnight Sun Film Festival» Ari Lehtola (Finland), Martha Otte,  Tromsø Film Festival "Tiff" (Norway), journalist Trine Smitstrup (Denmark) and producer Kelly Saksberg (Canada).

 The closing ceremony and awards ceremony  to be held    on November,  17 at 19.00 at the Children's Theatre School.

International festival of documentary films and television programs "The Northern Character" is arranged by   TV 21  with the support of the Murmansk region Government,   Norilsk Nickel,     Nordic Council of Ministers, Norwegian  Barents secretariat, Barents Press International,   Kola NPP and other institutions.
