I was a panelist on journalist debates in the framework of Barents Spektakel festival in Kirkenes.

We discussed Prejudices about each other. Journalists from Russia, Norway, Finland and Sweden put forward their own versions. I shared my version: media itself   cultivate hate speech. I presented   examples reading headlines in Karelian media over the past six months. Those headlines present Finns, Norwegians and Swedes as quite criminal people

The nearer   Barents Spektakel,   more worries for journalists : so many events in five days ...A group of Russian journalists   covering  this extraordinary festival is formed at last. Thanks to a grant from the Norwegian Barents Secretariat and Nordic  Journalists Centre   (Denmark) for the ninth time we will be able to try this "cultural-political cocktail " as organizers- Pikene på broen- call Barents Spektakel.

Barents Spektakel 2012 invites

Dec 19, 2011

From 8 to 12 February 2012 in Kirkenes the ninth festival Barents Spektakel  will be held. The Norwegian Barents secretariat traditionally invites a group of Russian journalists from Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions, the Komi Republic, Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Republic of Karelia to come to the festival. Journalists from Barents Russia have participated in all eight festivals . We hope that everything will turn out this year! Norwegian and Russian Barents Press intend to apply to the Norwegian Barents Secretariat and the Nordic Journalist Centre for grants to the Russian journalists.

Barents Spektakel. What is it?

Festival site http://2012.barentsspektakel.no/rus/articles/95 says:

"The festival Barents Spektakel - this is a cultural and political cocktail, which consists of modern art and music, literature and architecture, workshops and debates, theater on the stage and street theater, etc. All these ingredients are seasoned with the current issues of Barents Region and the north. And all this happens during the polar night, a dark February week, which is illuminated by the northern lights and deafened by voices of the Arctic.
The theme and slogan of the festival are changed every year, depending on what is now particularly acute sounds on the political, cultural and social scene of the Arctic.
The slogan of the forthcoming BS 2012 - DARE TO SHARE »
The permanent organizer is the Norwegian art-center  Pikene på broen.

On one day of the festival Barents Press is planning to hold Russian and Norwegian  journalists. debates.      We  suggest a  theme: “Are  prejudices still alive?”. In addition Barents Press International intends to hold the regular meeting of the board. It means that our colleagues, journalists from Finland and Sweden are going to come to Kirkenes too.

If you write about art, culture, politics and business, then you have a chance to get into a team who covers  this remarkable event.

We invite one journalist from the Nenets region, 1 - from the Komi Republic, 3 - from the Murmansk region, 2 - from the Arkhangelsk region, 2 - from Karelia.

Send your applications for participation to the e-mail barentspress@gmail.com

More information and application form are available in Russian

 Good luck!
