How can media not lose readers, listeners and viewers and not lose their social role in society? Is journalism to die or to become a new "business niche"? These issues were discussed by journalists from Norway, Finland, Sweden and Russia at the annual conference of the journalistic network Barents Press International in late April in the Swedish city of Haparanda.

Looking forward to Northern Character
Acceptance of applications for participation in the Third International Festival of TV programs and films Northern Character has completed.
The event is organised by TV-21 broadcasting company with support of the international association of journalists Barents Press, "Norilsk nickel" Company, "Media platform" Company, Norwegian Barents-secretariat, "Companion" Company and park-in hotel "Polyarnie Zori".
This year festival has collected much more works of the Russian and foreign TV reporters. 22 works came from Russian journalists from Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Kirov, Syktyvkar, Arkhangelsk, Salekhard, Ekaterinburg, Ryazan, the cities of Sovietsky (Tyumen region), Korjazhma (Arkhangelsk region), Monchegorsk, Kandalaksha and Murmansk. 14 works were sent by our Norwegian and 10 by Swedish colleagues.
The present festival is rich with documentary films and programs about culture. The program of the Third International Festival of TV programs and films Northern Character differs from the previous ones: festival redesign has changed, open shows for all comers are provided.
The Third International festival of TV programs and films «Northern character» will take place in Murmansk on November, 16-18.
