How can media not lose readers, listeners and viewers and not lose their social role in society? Is journalism to die or to become a new "business niche"? These issues were discussed by journalists from Norway, Finland, Sweden and Russia at the annual conference of the journalistic network Barents Press International in late April in the Swedish city of Haparanda.

Some say it´s difficult to understand the relation between Russia and Norway without understanding Svalbard. What is really going on in this islands? What is the history behind Svalbard and the Svalbard treaty?
TV festival Northern Character invites
On November 15–17 in Murmansk there takes place the forth International festival of documentary films and television programs “Northern Character”. Such a decision was taken at the latest meeting of the organizational board.
This year the slogan of the festival will be “Seduced by the North”.
For participation in the creative competition festival are admitted programmes of different styles, television and documentary films, video clips and short films, made by state, municipal and private TV companies, studios and independent filmmakers.
This year a new nomination has appeared in the competition programme “Television programme (news)”. The works will be judged by the international jury witch consists of Russian, Norwegian, Sweden and Finish journalists and filmmakers.
A part of the festival there will be traditional master-classes and media-forum, the preliminary theme of which is called “Cultural diversity in the Barents Region: makes us different or helps to understand each other”.
Barents Press is one of the organizers of the festival.
